About Teofilo

A First-Generation graduate raised in a Central-American home in Houston, TX, TEO brings an experience that resonates with many students with aspirations to build on their family's legacy in an authentic way. TEO's cultural, educational, and professional background has brought impactful messages and results to university student organizations, NCAA Division I programs, Texas public school districts, and grassroots community organizations.

Education

From failing many high school classes, to earning a 0.33 grade point average (GPA) in college, TEO's academic journey wasn't the most revered among his peers. A cyclical routine of failing classes and getting low test scores constantly challenged TEO's self-belief to succeed in the world that needed validation from academics. After a very low-performing semester as a first-generation, full-time, student-athlete (0.33 GPA), TEO had to truly discover what the barriers were to his performance in order to achieve his goals. After identifying both the academic and personal wellness factors that have contributed to his history of school struggles, that semester became the catalyst to graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Kinesiology, a Master of Science in Organizational Development and Leadership, and now a Ph.D. Candidate in Education.

Professional

In addition to his education and personal wellness journey, TEO has worked in the health and wellness industry for over 10 years as a personal trainer and wellness educator. Over the years, TEO has shared his passion of health and wellness with amazing clients and organizations that include the likes of Life Time Fitness, Gold's Gym, Crossfit, and training service members in the United States Marine Corps. TEO also has a 501(c)(3), The True Education and Outreach Foundation, an education-based nonprofit that promotes the pursuit of continuing education, and has provided academic scholarships through wellness-based programs.

Today, TEO shares his educational and professional experience to serve communities at scale at his alma mater, University of the Incarnate Word, through various forms of civic engagement in the Ettling Center for Civic Leadership and Sustainability. TEO has traveled both domestically and internationally conducting community engagement and leadership development efforts spanning from K-12 education systems, higher education student support services, grassroots nonprofit organizations, social entrepreneurship, and more.
